24-34 week growth scan
During this ultrasound examination we will measure the baby and compare the dimensions against those expected for its gestational age. We'll use those measurements to estimate the current fetal weight.
It can be reassuring to see for yourself that the baby is still growing correctly.
During the Growth Scan, we will measure the baby's head, abdomen and thigh bone and compare the measurement with the average measurements for a fetus of similar age.
From these measurements, we will calculate an estimated fetal weight, which again can be compared with the average for the same gestational age.
We'll also have a good look around the baby, allowing you to see it moving, possibly sucking its' thumb, kicking, yawning, or what ever else it happens to be up to at the time.
In most Pregnancy ultrasound examinations, the scan will show the developing baby and will reassure you that all is well. It is an unfortunate fact, however, that sometimes pregnancy complications arise resulting in a failiure of the pregnancy. This can be completely unexpected and without warning and requires us to be the bearers of the worst kind of bad news. In such circumstances, we will ensure you have time and support to process the information and to receive whatever medical care is required.
Please note: For multiple babies, there is an additional £30 charge.
