Ultrasound imaging is particularly valuable in the examination of the condition of a woman's reproductive organs. This assesses the overall state of your uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes (the tubes that connect the ovaries to the uterus). Pelvic scans are considered to be very safe and there are no risks associated with them.

Fertility Ultrasound scans are good at evaluating the wellbeing of the uterus and ovaries before conception as well as estimating the time of ovulation and measuring the endometrial thickness for assisted conception. This scan will also help to measure the follicles and endometrial thickness prior to private IVF treatment and can detect the presence and position of an intra uterine contraceptive device (IUCD or Coil)

What preparation is required for the Fertility Ultrasound scan?
You will need a full bladder for this ultrasound scan. Please be prepared to travel to the appointment with a full bladder, alternativly arrive early to your appointment and drink a lot of water when you get there.
What will happen during the examination?
The procedure is non-invasive and painless. You will be given a gown to put on and asked to take off your trousers, skirt and pants behind a privacy screen. You will be asked to lie on your back on the examination couch. Our highly qualified and experienced Sonographer will move a transducer lubricated with warm gel over your tummy. This gel is a conducting gel which improves the image quality of the scan. The transducer sends the ultrasound waves through you and picks up the returning waves. The whole process should take between 5 and 10 minutes. Once the Sonographer has completed your Fertility Ultrasound scan, you will be allowed to put your clothes back on and use the toilet.
